jsAnim

Welcome to the official website of the jsAnim javascript library. jsAnim was a clumbsy and poorly implemented library for adding mediocre animations to websites, sacrificing standards and accessibility. Weighing in at a whopping 25 kilobytes, jsAnim is a pretty bad idea.

Well, at least they are honest.

Vermont Livability Index

The Vermont Livability Index is a project started during the HackVT hackathon, held at MyWebGrocer in Winooski, VT on October 12, 2013.

The project intends to determine the “livability” of Vermont towns based on a variety of criteria. Each of the criteria is backed by data from the Vermont Center for Rural Studies and Vermont Housing Data. Users can also weight the criteria based on their personal preferences and concerns, in order to calculate a personal livability index and identify their ideal towns.

I enjoyed working on this project along with team members Brian Holdefehr and Matt Parrilla. Although we did not win any awards, the project was a success in that we completed development of a working web app over the course of 24 hours. It also provided an opportunity to familiarize myself with the JavaScript visualization library d3.js and the Python Imaging Library.

FlyJS: Visualizing 3D OSM Building Data

OSM Buildings is a lightweight Javascript library that adds a 3D Open Street Map data visualization layer to interactive maps. Currently Leaflet maps are the only mapping library supported, but the developer—Jan Marsch—hopes to also build in support for Google Maps and Nokia maps. Fun with Overflows

This page demonstrates how to use overflows and jQuery to slide elements side to side, as well as how to click and drag an element. It also includes links to a couple of screencasts showing the effects and how they were achieved.

Readability – An Arc90 Lab Experiment

Readability is a javascript bookmarklet that strips away all the clutter on a web page and just presents the main content in a nice, easy-to-read fashion. When you visit the site to grab the bookmark, you can choose between a variety of styles with which to present web content when you are browsing. It seems to work fairly reliably, although it works best on pages that are focused on one story or piece of content as opposed to a variety of content.

AJAX APIs Playground

Google has set up a page (who knows maybe its been around for a while) where you can test out any of the popular javascript libraries (jQuery, Mootools, Dojo) as well as the Google APIs, such as Charts, Maps, etc. I have a feeling I will be on this page a lot as I hone my javascript chops.

JavaScript Based Code Prettification

A nice runthrough of how to use jQuery to implement the Google Code syntax highlighter, prettify.js. Going to implement this on okay-plus.com.

jQuery Plugin: Wilq32.RotateImage

This is an amazing looking jQuery plugin that ties in with the ‘canvas’ element to allow arbitrary rotation of images in the browser.
